267 Tim O'Donnell on his 2nd place in Kona

Tim O’Donnell finished 2nd in Kona at the Ironman World Championships, breaking 8 hours to finish in 7.59.40.

One of the most consistent performers on the Big Island, Tim has finished in the top ten six times in the last eight years. This year’s result was all the more sweet for him after a difficult year marred by injury - broken ribs following a horrific high speed bike crash kept him away from racing the early season. He managed to secure his slot with a 3rd place at IM Boulder, despite him having a ‘bad race’ in his own words. However, worse was to come when he stepped on a kerb and broke a bone in his foot only 6 weeks before Kona. While this would have been the end of the dream for most athletes, Tim applied his remarkable mental strength. “Don’t focus on what you can’t do, focus on what you can do in that moment to become a better athlete.”
